Fr. Corey Close

FR. COREY CLOSE, Parochial Vicar: I was born and raised in a northern suburb of Chicago, and was raised Catholic. I attended public school, and in seventh grade, a fellow student told me that they thought I would make a great priest, and from that moment I knew that was what I was supposed to be. I was scared of it, however, and for my years in high school and college tried to pretend to myself that this wasn't really the case. I had a deep desire to fall in love and get married.

I attended the University of Iowa for college, a family tradition. I was a computer science major and I attended St. Mary's as my parish all four years here. In my senior year, I realized that I couldn't say no to God any longer, and decided to finally answer the call. I went to Fr. Ken (some of you may remember him) and asked him about entering the seminary. From there, I joined the diocese, then studied for two years in a seminary in Chicago called Mundelein, and then four years in a seminary in Rome called the North American College, and then finished my studies in Washington, DC. The past two years I have been at Prince of Peace in Clinton, Iowa, and now I am happy to be here!
